On August 3, 2020 CMS published the proposed physician fee schedule rule for 2021. The proposal includes a major cut in Medicare payment rates across the board, with the deepest cuts going to the non-E/M procedural codes. It goes without saying that this comes at a terrible time, on the heels of unexpected practice closures in the last few months. Physician advocacy groups are hard at work lobbying congress for some relief, but there are no guarantees. Medical practices need to hope for the best and prepare for the worst during these difficult times. Ensuring that every penny you collect is legitimate and preventing loss of revenue is more important than ever.
